I'm at the beach without my recipes, but this one I know by heart. The cole slaw I normally make these days is Paula Deen's. Hers has green pepper which Will doesn't like, so I leave it out. We decided thinly sliced and on top would be acceptable, and would make a nice presentation if we ever take this to a potluck.
Cole Slaw
half a finely chopped cabbage
half a small red or yellow onion (to taste, but somewhere around 2 or 3 tablespoons, chopped fine)
a small carrot, grated
1/2 cup Hellman's mayonaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 or 2 T. cider vinegar
1 T. sugar
1/2 t. Jane's Crazy Mixed-up Salt
Chop the vegetables and put in a mixing bowl. Mix the dressing ingredients together and pour over the vegetables. Stir together. Refrigerate until serving time.

i learned from granny to chop the cabbage finer than you probably think you should. it's much tastier for some reason. she told me one time that she loved mashed potatoes and cole slaw (together)better than almost anything for dinner.
